Couldn’t sleep well in the morning. There was very little air in the room and half of my back got sunburned by the pool yesterday. Around four thirty in the morning, I had already set off for the road.
The road into Burgos was long. Walking along the dark side of the airport area, there was a bat circling around my head for over 10 minutes.
Just before the actual city, I spent 40 minutes taking pictures next to a highway bridge. The Moon and Venus were both visible during sunrise. I added a picture of it on Instagram.
Burgos itself was quite plain looking except for the main cathedral, which was really a sight to see. Extraordinary, elegant, full of light and gigantic in size. The picture is taken where stairs are leading Camino out of Burgos’ old town area.
Afterwards, I just felt tired and rushed the last 12km. It was a little harder than I thought because The Messeta started, which is an almost endless flat area with nothing around for over 200 kilometers. The Spanish equivalent of a high elevation desert. This will go on for several more days.
I arrived at the municipal albergue four hours before opening. It was before 11am. Luckily, I caught the landlady before she left for another village. I was made the temporary houselord until she returned. It was pretty cool to be there for people from my group and let them in early.
Food in the village of Tardajos tested just average but it felt great to stuff my face after so many hours of walking. Now I will use the evening hours to get my mind off the trail by doing some office work and then it starts all over again tomorrow.
The road seems both short and long at the same time. Time itself somehow is acting in a similar way. The road is already affecting the way my brain understands things. A new fresh outlook is coming in and making everything more relaxed and clear.
