The morning began with a choice again. Either you go on a highway fast and easily or flow through the hills. That choice was more than easy. Of course, I was going to take the scenic route.
The hills were not that massive, but I really love how nature keeps on changing rapidly ever since León. Hills, curvy roads, long stretches of forest, river crossings and lovely small villages.
I found a small watchtower on top of the hill where I took several pictures. One of them you can see above with the lovely small city of Astorga shining on the horizon. Before reaching the city, I caught up with Itsuki again, who was playing guitar with a random local guy on the side of the road. Many fans had gathered around to film and take pictures.
Just before the city of Astorga, we saw local civil police riding horses. Together with them, we slowly headed towards the old town. Police horses did have a hard time crossing a metallic highway bridge. We were hungry and had a proper lunch in the old town. It’s strange to see cigarette and slot machines next to where you are eating.
The last ten kilometers of the day had already got a bit tougher. One of my heels doesn’t like walking that much at the moment. There is no need to push myself to any limits. Going to keep the daily distance short enough not to get injured but long enough to actually feel tired after a day of walking.
