After today there is only under 40km to Santiago. The place where all pilgrims gather and often finish their journey. There are many hiking roads that take you into Santiago. Those roads resemble a seashell, where Santiago is the place all lines meet.
Seashells and arrows have guided my way on this journey for over 700km now and will continue to do so until land runs out and there is nothing left but the ocean.
Today was again one of those days when I fell in love all over again with the Camino. Since its gotten even colder than right now in Estonia, you can really see Autumn knocking on the door. So many colorful leaves were adding color to the road that hundreds of pilgrims passed today. There really were not that many moments when I wasn’t surrounded by other hikers. Nevertheless, I got lost inside my own thoughts again.
It especially touched me walking into a city today. While I love every step of this journey, I also start to miss a normal life. There are many things you have to live without on the road. Things that you find new appreciation for, like your own bed, your own kitchen, spices to make any cooking delicious and so many other little and bigger things.
The scenery is changing a lot with every kilometer currently. At the same time, the road is really well planned. There were only a handful of cars that I needed to be careful of throughout the whole day. It’s already like hikers heaven. Seemingly endless road, where time seems to stand still. The common goal is uniting all pilgrims you see on the road is to reach Santiago.
It will be quite a challenge to push that last 40km in a single day, but I will still go for it. Only if I see a risk of injury will I stop before the great cathedral. There is a good chance I might still see Matthew hanging out next to the ocean at Finisterre.
Its so cool to have the majority of the gang from the beginning going all the way. I hope those that got injured and had to leave for now still come back in the future and continue where they left off. To see it through all the way is the only right way. Even if it takes several attempts at it.
