Camino Portugues day 3: Azambuja to Santarem (34,6km)

It’s a snake country! I have seen evidence of three different species of non-venoumous snakes (total 7 species). Some of them are really big. Only 1 rattlesnake looking bastard is supposed to be properly venomous in these areas.

The day itself went really well. Was out of the door at 6am and felt suprisingly fresh. I guess the cold-gel I started using yesterday after hiking worked well. Will continue to do that in the evenings.

Half of the day I spent on these high-rises as seen in the picture. I loved how many chairs were available. It made me feel special. Well done Portugal!

My tolerance to heat was a bit better today. The next two days will be cloudy, yay!

I loved all the wineyards that appeared on the sides of the road. Most restaurants on Camino routes offer a three-course pilgrim meal with wine for just 10€.

Access to fresh water got me tricked a bit today. Had to do 16km without access to any fresh water. Underestimated my needs in the local heat. Will be smarter tomorrow.

I really, really love it here and it’s so cool to see some familiar hikers every day. Local cafes are our main attractions.
