A super short day today. Started powerwalking the first 12km. Then I realized that my feet were not ready to do +25km more.
I had to wait a few hours before I got refuge in a monastery for tonight. Interesting experience for sure. Saint Isabelle in the picture is who the monastery is dedicated to. She was a very kind woman with a terrible husband.
I have spent pretty much the whole day in bed resting to make sure my feet are completely rested for tomorrow. I might take a full day off later in Porto to recover again.
Other than Porto and Lisbon, I can now recommend visiting Coimbra at least once. It’s a gorgeous old city with lots of history. The old town is built on a hill with a 4th century cathedral being the prize jewel of the city. These days, the local university is using the rooms.
The rest of the journey until Porto is 90% on hard surfaces. So snakes are unlikely, but the toll on feet will be large. Today three of my toes started hurting in the bones from the road. Funny how bones can be weaker than muscles.
I am still completely determined to reach Santiago.
