Camino Portugues day 13: Oliveira de Azeméis to Grijó (26,6km)

Today was a strange day indeed. At some point, I felt like melting in the sun. The next moment, I met a pilgrim travelling south and they felt way worse than me. Felt good at least to offer help at a good shade to stop or in the closest café.

Not much shade or places to sit on this Camino. You really need to plan your walk from café to café. Every 3-4km, a place to hide from the sun and cool down. It was quite easy to find places today compared to yesterday. That is why it also felt better on the road.

Took it super slow today. I didn’t expect many people in the albergue. When I arrived, I got the last bed! So I was extremely lucky.

In the last two days I have pushed +50% compared to the normal daily distance. I have caught up now with people one day ahead of me. From the suggested tourist tempo, I am +2 days ahead. I will try to get another two days before Santiago. It should be easy since suggested distances for most days drop to ~20km a day from now.

My feet feel so much lighter with my summer hiking socks. It did feel rough being only on hard surface all day, but at least I didn’t feel like boiling.

I can feel how, in general, my body is asking to take a few days off to recover strength, but I will try to do 25km days instead of not pushing too hard.

Temperatures will start dropping from tomorrow onwards for the first time on this journey. Next week should be even more chilly. Honestly, I can’t wait.
