Camino Portugues day 23: Briallos to Santiago de Compostela (49,0km)

Finished the main journey with a new personal best. 49km in one go and I feel great. No injuries or anything. Had to sit down for an hour after hiking and then started going round the city.

Woke up at 4am today, had a quick breakfast snack and went out in complete darkness. Headlamps helped me until the sun came out around half past six. Had already done 10km in constant mushroom rain.

The next 15km in daylight came super easily. I had an early lunch in Padron to make sure I had enough energy in me to survive the day and off I was again. Very little time spent resting today. I also had to survive strong rainfall in the afternoon while hiking.

The main magic trick was changing into fresh socks at km 31 and 42. I had to use all three pairs to make sure I could continue walking tomorrow. No rest for the wicked.

Santiago is a big modern city with a medieval-style old town. The cathedral is sadly under renovation and no one can enter. I got my certificate at the pilgrim office for hiking 675km.

Tomorrow I start a new hiking journey to the westernmost point of coastal Europe – Finisterre lighthouse. Will see the Atlantic Ocean once more.
