Camino Portugues day 25: Negreira to Santa Mariña (21,3km)

The views today have been astonishing. Today and tomorrow we can enjoy views from hilltops all day. The picture I took shows the valley where I slept and, since it was only seven degrees down below, then you got this beautiful white mist.

Walking today was surprisingly difficult. I hoped for at least a 30km day. My right foot was making me slow already after 5km. It looks like I will not be doing days over 25km until I finish. I only have 49 more to go, so it’s not a big issue. I just have to make a rational decision and skip the +30km extra hike to Muxia.

Surprisingly, many pilgrims walked the opposite way towards Santiago. The biggest group was around 30 people that was spread across a kilometer. Most were schoolkids, but also some older people.

At the back of the group, several hundred meters behind everyone, were two girls. They seemed to be sharing one pair of hiking sticks. Both girls were limping. One had a limp way worse than mine. Probably injured already. I stopped them for a second and gave away my hiking sticks. I needed them far less than they did. I just hope their way to Santiago will be easier now.

I am staying really in the countryside today. There were cows, horses and sheep all around. You can smell them too.

The local restaurant food smells so good that you don’t mind anything. I am really enjoying hiking even at this slow rate.
