Camino Frances day 9: Belorado to Atapuerca (30,5km)

Had the best sleep ever this time. The first time on this journey, the phone alarm went on before I was awake. I took breakfast very very slowly and enjoyed it. The local hostel owner was catering like a professional, it was a lot of fun.

The walk itself felt especially good the first two hours, since the sky was covered in clouds. For quite a while, it felt like I did not need to worry about heat anymore. Jokes on me, because once the sun did come out it sucked out all the air.

I felt my feet overheating in the shoes in the middle of a 12km stretch from Montes de Oca up the hills to Agés. No place really to sit down comfortably, so I decided to push through to the first bar and change socks there. Once I continued walking, I realized that I had just got my first blister today. It’s between two toes, so it does not directly make walking difficult. It’s still better not to get more.

Atapuerca, where I am staying today, is a former archeological site where they found one of the earliest human remains.

The day all together went extremely slowly. The walking tempo was good, but I took a lot of long breaks. It is my first day walking without knee plasters. So far, so good, but today was also a soft surface walking day. I hope that tomorrow my legs can also withstand the road.

Also, I forgot to mention before that yesterday I had entered the Castille-Leon region. It is the second to last region of the journey.
