I slept very peacefully with earbuds and buff to cover my eyes. Woke up at 5am refreshed as ever and hit the road within minutes. The first three hours of walking, I could constantly see lightning flashes in front, to the left and to the right of me. I hiked through a storm that was diagonally moving towards me. The image is already from the last 9 kilometers. Not once did I hear thunder nearby, so all good.
I had the rare opportunity to speedhike through and away from a storm. I did not slow down today. The storm was supposed to last 2 hours once caught by it. Only one little break just to change socks and immediately continue hiking.
It took me 5 hours to reach the hostel in Carrión I was hoping to stay at. At 10am, I was the last customer they accepted for today. It must be my lucky day. They also have a good grocery store downstairs, I sleep in a room of my own and even have a bathtub. I already had a cold footbath to relax from walking tension. I will have a nice hot bath next to wash off the dirt properly. Life is good.
I was so fast today because of the discovery of the correct foot motion while hiking yesterday. I also adjusted my knee to full motion today and it worked wonders. Step length improved by a lot. Fewer stones now hurt the feet while going the same distance. The only thing is that I am probably using new muscles in the weak leg that were not so developed before since the injury and will take some days to fully build up.
I keep getting stronger in Spain despite the hot weather.
I feel ready to start tomorrow on the longest and sunniest stretch on the Camino. 17 kilometers of hell ahead if you happen to be still there at midday. My plan is to pass it while the sun is still rising and see how it feels from there.
