Camino Frances day 24: Pontecampaña to Salceda (35,64km)

I assumed that with plenty of rest time I would be less worn out today. Looks like I was wrong. After 18km of walking, I realized that I was moving forward by burning energy reserves already. Since I have already booked my stay for tonight, I decided to push myself until the albergue. It is never a wise decision to push yourself hard, but I do not regret it.

Tomorrow I have just a 27km walk to Santiago, but I expect walking around 15km to become difficult. Since yesterday I have not been able to recover much, then with an even longer walk today – tomorrow will be very hard.

I might even consider taking a day’s rest in Santiago before heading further to Muxia and Fisterra. Legs and feet are doing just fine, but moving the body overall feels increasingly difficult. Like experiencing burnout.

All the nature paths today were just amazing. The disappointing place I walked through was Melide. The industrial park just feels disgusting at the beginning. It is so foreign to this green countryside nature that is all around. Melide itself also had quite a dirty and ugly old town. The town looked like everyone wanted to live in the cheapest possible multi-story building.

Galicia itself is amazing. So many soft footpaths through forests and even on the side of the roads. Forest roads are usually dug into the ground, giving a more even terrain, protection from the sun and a nice soft walkway.

As you can see in the picture, then eucalyptus trees are starting to appear in forests. The air smells really nice around them.
