Camino Norte day 3: Getaria to Ibiri Quarter (24.9km)

My left Achilles still felt slightly uncomfortable from spraining it yesterday, but it has almost healed up. It should be perfectly fine by tomorrow.

Today was perfect weather from start to finish. The walk out of Getaria was nothing special until I started getting close to Zumaia. The views over the ocean and town were simply breathtaking.

Had a big breakfast with Spanish omelettes in town. I have missed these potato and onion omelettes. The best part of the day was waiting just on the other side of Zumaia.

Game of Thrones shot scenes at Dragonstone beach here in Zumaia. I had to Google to be sure though. I had to use my Buen Camino app to find this part of the alternative trail. Yellow arrows did not point here. Walking to this beach area added like 2km to my daily journey, but it was all so worth it!

The trails connected back together quite fast and split again shortly after. I did not do the second part of the flysch geopark trail. The idea of putting my sprained Achilles through 9km of mud and rocks into Deba did not sound like a good choice for this trip. I know for sure that the views were better on the oceanside alternative though.

Instead, I did the final 9km stretch into Deba inland. Crossed some highways and walked up and down mountains mainly on asphalt. My legs agreed with this choice. Still, the elevation game was no joke.

The most fun uphill adventure was right after Deba. There I finally had a clean sandy forest going upwards and later asphalt going alongside the mountain zone.

Sleeping in a cow shed today on top of a mountain with distant views of the ocean. Not too shabby.

Just to be safe, I did some post-hike stretching and mobility exercises. I guess I will keep doing them every evening as a routine to keep my feet in a healthy state.
