Camino Norte day 5: Zenzurra to Pozueta (24.5km)

Today felt really easy walking through the mountains. My Achilles is almost completely healed. Super grateful that it turned out so well.

Today was made especially pleasant with constant small hilly landscapes and lots of villages with tasty food waiting for me. I had three servings of potato omelets in total. The prices for food and drink have dropped significantly. I guess the super tourist region is behind me now.

The weather was also good. No rain at all and a mix of sun and clouds all day. I even switched to hiking in shorts. Now I feel like my good old hiking rhythm is back. Hopefully, I can get a few more good days without rain.

I spent some time in Gernika just enjoying the sun. I went a bit off the Camino trail to capture a picture of Picasso’s famous mural pilgrim style.

Gernika left a very good impression on me. It is very well taken care of, has lots of green areas and historic buildings. In addition, it is not too big. Getting in and out is simple.

Between Gernika and Bilbao there are just two mountains left. Then the mountainous part of Norte is over. I am sleeping on the first of the two mountains. The views are amazing!

I feel very motivated to have a huge walking day tomorrow. I have already made ambitious plans. Until then, I plan to relax as much as possible.
