Camino via de la Plata day 1: Seville to Santiponce (7.5km)

I landed in Seville in the evening. I ordered a cab from the airport and drove straight to the Tirana area in Seville. When I got off the taxi, it was already sunset. There was no time to lose or would not make it to the hostel to check-in.

It was still so warm outside that I had to change into shorts and a t-shirt. I crossed the bridge out of Seville and it started already to get dark. Luckily I charged my headlamp yesterday. Bats did not fly near me anymore with the lights on.

I chose the riverside nature route to walk. Other than distant cars there was not much sound. A few birds only. I did see the shredded skin of a snake on the road, but no snake itself luckily.

Today I am sleeping next to a Roman coliseum that was built 2000 years ago. Will have a look at it in the morning. One more pilgrim is staying here. He is cycling the Camino.

I have been nervously waiting for this first day of the Camino for the last seven months. In my head, I have planned for all kinds of happenings. My over planning worked out well. I even had a backup hostel booking for Seville old town near the cathedral in case there are issues.

I hope my nerves can start to calm down in the next few days. I came here on holiday after all.
