Day 2: Santiponce to Castilblanco de los Arroyos (31.0km)

If I had to describe a perfect day hiking then this would pretty much be it. It was warm enough in the morning to go out in shorts. I did not get a proper look at the Roman ruins, but I had a glimpse. Trees on the streets grew oranges and lemons.

For a short while I had to walk on car roads. Overall today was on farm roads pretty much all the time.

First half of the day was going through large farmlands. Some people were busy working the fields. The Camino was adjusted in recent years to avoid even more of the car road. Second half of the day was flowing through a national park. Plenty of rocks and other stuff throughout the day to sit on.

It has not rained around here for a while. The ground is extremely dry. Today in the evening a thunderstorm will start. I did not want to get caught in heavy endless rain, so break were short today.

The weather got to +27°C, which for me is way too different from the snowfall I still saw out the window before leaving. Acclimatizing will take several days. I got quite exhausted having to move around in this weather.

This Camino has very few cafes and restaurants. When I finished, then the ones around me were just about to go to their siesta breaks. Not sure if I want to wait until 8pm to see food. Luckily there was a gas station next to the albergue that sells snacks.

I felt so stupid today when I realized I had been walking 20km with a kilo of bananas in the backpack. It did make for a great lunchbreak though.

I am not sure anymore how far I want to walk tomorrow. The next village where I can sleep is 29km away, the next one after that 42km away. You are definitely short on food and sleep options on this trail, but the nature walks more than make up for it.
