Camino via de la Plata day 7: Villafranca de los Barros to Almendralejo (18.0km)

185km done on the first week of the Camino. Pretty good considering the first day was just an evening walk. I need to pick up the pace again once the worst of the rain has passed.

It started to rain hard yesterday evening and kept raining non-stop. The hiking trail is of good quality here, but the amount of water is becoming troublesome. Every 200 meters I had to somehow cross a water stream. Some were small, others big and extra muddy.

I loosened up my sneakers to the feet would feel good with hiking socks and waterproof socks on. Still the rain and water obstacles were enough to get the feet soaking wet. I am not going to push hard today just to regret it later. The blisters in wet socks were mot having fun either.

Even my clothes were all wet from the rain. I felt like I might get seriously sick today if I stay outside much longer. Already had lost almost all feeling in my fingers.

I walked off the Camino to a neighboring town. I am about 15km from Torremejia and 30km from Merida. Will take it one day at a time.

Rainfall should ease up in a few days. Until then I might do these shorter walks.
