Camino via de la Plata day 19: Zamora to Granja de Moreruela (41.8km)

Two donkeys in Spain. That is how I felt today. Like a donkey mindlessly pushing forward chasing an imaginary carrot.

This had to be the most boring day of the Camino so far. It was flat all day, no trees around just the highway to keep me company.

The most interesting place of the day was Montamarta. There the water level in the river was so high that a concrete bridge from the church to the monastery was underwater. Crossing the area from the normal car bridge I saw several trees growing in the middle of what the river is currently. Apparently in Summer this same river could be barely two meters wide.

The next fun area was just before Fontanillas de Castro. For a moment the Camino trail went away from the highway and I got to see the ruins of a big castle. Also I met a nice donkey and visited the local bar for a quick snack.

Because the trail was so flat, the day went really fast. It must have been my fastest day so far. I am set to keep heading north towards Astorga.

I want to say goodbye tomorrow to the old N-630 highway that is ending. I also want to see the Via de la Plata trail to the end in Astorga where it merges into Camino Frances. My only worry is that distance options for walking are very few ahead.
