Camino via de la Plata day 23: El Ganso to Ponferrada (39.1km)

Had a slow morning and enjoyed a cup of tea before heading out with the sunrise. I wanted to enjoy the mountain views on the way up to Cruz de Ferro. I passed the cross quickly and made a plan on how to get down the mountain.

I walked a mix of car road and official Camino road going down. I wanted to keep a balance between the hard and sharp stones pushing out the mountain and the very narrow car road where some cars drove pretty fast.

Getting down to Molonaseca had never felt this easy before. It must be because my body and my pack are lighter than usual. Long walks through last Winter to prepare for this hike have paid off.

I ran out of sunscreen in Molinaseca. Since its a Sunday then pharmacies are closed. I had to walk into Ponferrada with my raincoat on in +29°C weather. It was hot but the feet were still moving fast.

I feel like I could keep walking and walking, but I am not a fan of the idea of doing it under the blazing sun. I already have scars on hands and elbows from sunburns. Yet, I have walked a lot with my raincoat.

Maybe, I will start hiking earlier again tomorrow. Ponferrada has a huge albergue running on donations, but they don’t offer dinner. Need to find a gas station now to buy food for tonight.
