Perfect day of hiking. I did get lost making my own way out of Ponferrada, but nothing too bad. I did get to walk past the castle and amaze how beautiful and well kept it is.
The first 15km to Cacabelos went pretty smooth, but by the time I reached the old town part my legs were starting to get soft on me. I had walked without any breakfast, but a quick stop for a double Spanish omelets fixed that immediately.
Pharmacies opened up too and I got sunscreen with moisturizing effects. It might not be visible from the picture, but I have second degree sunburns on the backs of my hands. I was told to use the cream at least 3x a day while hiking. No wonder my hands got so bad by doing a lot less earlier.
The day was going endlessly on car roads. After 34km of total walking in Trabadelos I did another pit stop. This time for a full three course late lunch. After lunch I decided to switch wearing my rain jacket for the orange long sleeve fleece shirt. It felt pretty good on a slightly windy day.
Exiting the village I met my favorite Camino Youtuber, Efren. He is doing the Camino Frances the opposite way. We exchanged a few quick words, shook hands and continued our own ways.
I was a bit scared to do such a long day and then partially up a very steep mountain, but after this chance encounter I felt that luck is on my side today.
I finished today very fast. Should be more than enough time to properly recover for tomorrow. The albergue here is really nice, but to get internet I need to walk to the other side of the small village.
Galicia is less than 5km away. I can already hear the deep forests calling me.
