Camino via de la Plata day 25: La Faba to Sarria (42.3km)

Today was quite tough on the legs. 1500m total elevation climb up and 1100m down.

The morning hike up the mountain up to Galicia and O Cebreiro went great. I started off a little after sunrise. Weather report said perfect sunny day all day. Of course as soon as I crossed into Galicia a heavy fog rolled over and lasted for over an hour, until I reached the other end of this mountaintop.

Meanwhile when entering O Cebreiro it even rained a few drops on me and I just started laughing, because it always rains in Galicia.

The walk down the mountain after passing Alto do Poio went great. I could finally see to the distance and enjoy the sunny day. It was so chilly on the mountain that I had no issues walking in my rain jacket.

Going downhill I passed so many of these green trenches that are dug all around Galicia. Its the perfect way to travel from village to village without worrying about the weather. Of course the local villages all had cows in them and friendly dogs keeping an eye on things.

By the time I reached Tricastela on the bottom of the mountain I was so hungry that I just jumped into the first bar and ordered the daily menu. Three meals later, I was ready to walk some more kilometers in what I hoped was flat land.

I chose the shorter northern route out of town. I do remember liking this trail. I did not remember that its hilly from start to finish. If I had realized how exhausted my legs were, I would have taken the longer southern route and stayed in Samos.

I was aiming for the last public albergue just before Sarria, but it was closed. Now I am even closer to Santiago than planned.

My right foot has a small infection between the toes. Have been using plasters the last two days to keep the area clean. Will slow down my daily distances now just a little to finish with a smile and not in pain. I estimate to reach Santiago in three days from here.
