Camino Estonia day 9: Pärnu-Jaagupi – Tori (31km)

I started a little after the sunrise today. It’s the first time on this Camino I could hit the trail so early. The weather was -4 Celsius when I started and got all the way to +14 later on. A perfect sunny day with no wind at all.

Getting out of Pärnu-Jaapupi I headed towards Ududvere village across the highway. From there I turned off towards Suigu village and spent most of the day on this wide empty road. The local county busses should travel the same road a few times per day but I barely saw any traffic at all. I saw more hawks and falcons than cars.

The trail had quite a lot of bus stops today and half of them had some sort of bench to sit on. With the warm sunlight it felt really relaxing. Just after Tabria village a local dog started following me out of the blue. He seemed to want to play and not go home. After a while I called the local farmers to come pick up their dog before he gets lost.

I continued on my own into Suigu village. This 20km walking was all just perfect. At the very least I always had a tree stump or stone to sit om by the side of the road.

After Suigu it became very uncomfortable walking besides one busy highway and turning into an even bigger national highway. I had to walk besides highways for about 8km without protection from cars and just 1 bus station to take a rest.

It got good again about two kilometers before Tori. A pedestrian road appeared as the Camino turned off the highway. Tori is a beautiful village that is well known for its horses.

I can call this weekend highly successful not just with hiking, but also managing to collect 3 stamps from churches.

It will be tricky now figuring out how to proceed as the next grocery store and church are 45km away with not much in-between (Soomaa). I might wait until the nights are warm enough for camping.
