Camino Frances day 29: Negreira to Olveiroa (33,4km)

The morning was pretty bad. After waking up, I felt sick, like I was about to catch a fever. My appetite wasn’t the same as usual and my head was so thick it was hard to think. Nevertheless, I went on the road to sooner or later arrive where planned.

I got lost several times in the first two villages. Road markings on the street have disappeared and there are markings only on walls and the side of the road. The problem is that these markings are done in a way you can use during daylight. I lost a total of 2km walking due to the wrong path chosen. While feeling sick, I really was thinking of considering a bus to Finisterre and resting instead of still pushing myself so hard. Santiago was already done after all.

I decided to push on. I had a nice little break in the first cafe I saw, which was like after 13km of walking. After a cup of mint tea, my strength started returning all of a sudden. It was still raining a little outside, but I packed myself as warm as I could to just sweat out any tiny fever I could have. After a while, it seemed to work.

Ten kilometers later, I had my chance for a second cup of tea. By then the sun had come out already. My health had improved and I finally decided to take rainy clothes off. In fact, I started to feel so good, I even did a little sun tanning. Once going up the hill in the picture I did have to pack a little warmer again, because sad rain is a frequent visitor in this region.

I really enjoyed the hike after the first cup of tea. Note for tomorrow – leave late and have breakfast in the same village I started from. This way, nothing disturbs my morning from going well. Rain is really not an issue with the right equipment, just an inconvenience.

I have to see tomorrow morning how much hiking my body can do. There is a real threat that in this albergue I will freeze half to death by the morning and get really sick. Really hoping that won’t happen. If it does, I will just drink more than one cup of tea at a café before leaving. I want to be my best self for this one last hike coming tomorrow.
